Weekly Highlights: September 15-19, 2014

Floor Action:

Appropriations- On September 18, the Senate approved, 78-22, a continuing resolution (CR) (H. J. Res. 124) to fund the federal government through December 11. The House passed the measure on September 17, by a vote of 319-108.

Violence Against Women- On September 18, the Senate approved, by unanimous consent, the Debbie Smith Reauthorization Act (H.R. 4323).

Human Trafficking- On September 18, the Senate approved, by unanimous consent, the Preventing Sex Trafficking and Strengthening Families Act (H.R. 4980).

Employment- On September 15, the Senate rejected by a vote of 52-40, a motion to end debate on the Paycheck Fairness Act (S. 2199). The procedural vote, also known as cloture, requires at least 60 votes for passage.

Child Care- On September 15, the House passed, by voice vote, the Child Care and Development Block Grant Act (S. 1086).

Family Support- On September 16, the House approved, by voice vote, the Preserving Welfare for Needs Not Weed Act (H.R. 4137).

Human Trafficking- On September 18, the Senate Judiciary Committee passed, by voice vote, the Runaway and Homeless Youth and Trafficking Prevention Act (S. 2646).
