Weekly Highlights: July 21-25, 2014

Floor Action:

Human Trafficking- On July 23, the House passed several bills, by voice vote, to address human trafficking: the Enhancing Services for Runaway and Homeless Victims of Youth Trafficking Act (H.R. 5076), the Preventing Sex Trafficking and Strengthening Families Act (H.R. 4980), the Human Trafficking Prevention, Intervention, and Recovery Act (H.R. 5135), the Human Trafficking Detection Act (H.R. 5116), the Human Trafficking Prevention Act (H.R. 4449), and the Human Trafficking Prioritization Act (H.R. 2283).

On July 24, the House approved, 409-0, a bill to improve the response to victims of child sex trafficking (H.R. 5111); on July 25, it passed, 399-0, the Strengthening Child Welfare Response to Trafficking Act (H.R. 5081).

Family Support- On July 25, the House approved, 237-173, the Child Tax Credit Improvement Act (H.R. 4935).

Hearings:

Small Business- On July 23, the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee held a hearing, “Empowering Women Entrepreneurs: Understanding Success, Addressing Persistent Challenges, and Identifying New Opportunities.”

Family Support- On July 24, the House Subcommittee on Department Operations, Oversight, and Nutrition held a hearing on the role of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in relation to other federal assistance programs.
