Weekly Highlights: February 1-5, 2016

Floor Action:

Budget- On February 2, the House failed to override President Obama’s veto of H.R. 3762, the Restoring American’s Health Care Freedom Reconciliation Act.

Human Trafficking- On February 1, the House passed, by voice vote, the International Megan’s Law to Prevent Child Exploitation and Other Sexual Crimes Through Advanced Notification of Traveling Sex Offenders (H.R. 515) and the Trafficking Prevention in Foreign Affairs Contracting Act (H.R. 400).

Violence Against Women- On February 2, the Senate approved, by unanimous consent, S. Res. 353, a resolution designating January 2016 as “National Stalking Awareness Month.”

Mark-Ups:

Human Trafficking- On February 2, the House Homeland Security Committee passed, by voice vote, the Department of Homeland Security Human Trafficking Prevention Act (H.R. 4383).

Hearings:

Military- On February 2, the Senate Armed Services Committee held a hearing, “Implementation of the Decision to Open All Ground Combat Units to Women.”
