Military- On December 11, the Senate approved, 89-11, the FY2015 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) (H.R. 3979).
Violence Against Women- On December 9, the Senate passed, by unanimous consent, the Alaska Safe Families and Villages Act (S. 1474). On December 11, the House approved the bill by voice vote, clearing it for President Obama’s signature.
Health- On December 8, the Senate approved, by unanimous consent, the Newborn Screening Saves Lives Reauthorization Act (H.R. 1281). The House approved the legislation on December 10, by voice vote, sending the bill to the president.
On December 9, the House passed, by voice vote, the “Early Awareness Requires Learning Young (EARLY) Reauthorization Act (H.R. 5185).
International- On December 8, the House passed, by voice vote, the Senator Paul Simon Water for the World Act (H.R. 2901).
On December 10, the House approved, by voice vote, the Global Food Security Act (H.R. 5656).
Miscellaneous- On December 8, the House passed, by voice vote, a bill (H.R. 5687) to name a post office facility in Long Beach, California after former Rep. Juanita Millender-McDonald (D-CA).
Human Trafficking/International- On December 11, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee approved, by voice vote, H.R. 4573, the International Megan’s Law to Prevent Demand for Child Sex Trafficking.
International- On December 11, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee approved, by voice vote, a resolution (S. Res. 595) recognizing Nobel Laureates Kailash Stayarthi and Malala Yousafzai for their efforts to ensure the right of all children to an education.
The committee also approved, by voice vote, a resolution (S. Res. 597) commemorating and supporting the goals of World AIDS Day.
