The Source on Women’s Issues in Congress, March 12-16, 2018

Floor Action: 

International— On March 13, Senate passed, by voice vote, S. 2286, the Nick Castle Peace Corps Reform Act. Among other provisions, the bill would address sexual assault of Peace Corps volunteers while abroad. 

Miscellaneous— On March 14, the Senate passed, by unanimous consent, S. Res. 436, recognizing the 106th birthday of the Girl Scouts and affirming the importance of leadership development for girls. 

Hearings: 

International— On March 14, the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Multilateral International Development, Multilateral Institutions, and International Economic, Energy, and Environmental Policy held a hearing, “Why Food Security Matters.” 

Family Support— On March 15, the House Education and the Workforce Subcommittee on Higher Education and Workforce Development held a hearing, “Strengthening Access and Accountability to Work in Welfare Programs.”
