Senate Passes Bill to Recognize Service of Women Veterans

On November 20, the Senate passed, by unanimous consent, a bill (H.R. 5441) to amend the federal charter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) of the United States to reflect the service of women in the armed forces of the United States. The House approved the legislation, by voice vote, on November 17; the House Judiciary Committee approved the bill on November 13 (see The Source, 11/14/14). Senate passage of H.R. 5441 clears the measure for President Obama’s signature.
