On October 5, the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations passed several bills, including S. 832, the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) and Millennium Challenge Act (MCA) Modernization Act, as amended, sponsored by Sen. Ben Cardin (D-MD). The House Foreign Affairs Committee approved its version of the bill (H.R. 3445) on September 28 (see The Source, 9/29/17).
Among other provisions, the bill would implement policies to “promote the role of women in social, political, and economic development in sub-Saharan Africa.”
