Senate Committee Approves Women’s History Museum Bill

On November 13, the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee approved, by unanimous consent, the National Women’s History Museum Commission Act (S. 398). The House approved its version of the bill (H.R. 863) on May 7 (see The Source, 5/9/14).

As amended, the legislation would establish a commission to study the creation and maintenance of a women’s history museum in Washington, DC. The commission would be required to report to the president on, among other things, the cost of establishing such a museum, the impact on regional women’s history museums, potential locations for the museum, and whether the museum should be part of the Smithsonian Institution.
