Millender-McDonald Post Office Bill Clears House

On December 8, the House passed, by voice vote, a bill (H.R. 5687) to name a post office facility in Long Beach, California after former Rep. Juanita Millender-McDonald (D-CA).

Sponsored by Rep. Janice Hahn (D-CA), the bill would officially designate the facility as the Juanita Millender-McDonald Post Office. Rep. Millender-McDonald represented the 37th District of California from 1996 until her death from colon cancer in 2007. During the 107th Congress, she served as a co-chair of the Congressional Caucus for Women’s Issues. While in Congress, she was a strong supporter of international human rights and efforts to eliminate human trafficking. Prior to her election to Congress, she served on the Carson City Council and in the California State Assembly.
