Humanitarian Efforts Focus of Senate Hearing

On March 22, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee held a hearing, “Flashing Red: The State of Global Humanitarian Affairs.” The witnesses addressed several humanitarian crises, many of which have affected women and girls worldwide, and the U.S. government’s efforts to provide assistance to countries in need.

The following witnesses testified:

  • Gregory Gottlieb, acting administrator, Bureau of Democracy, Conflict, and Humanitarian Assistance, United States Agency for International Development;
  • The Honorable Nancy Lindborg, president, U.S. Institute of Peace; and
  • Yves Daccord, director-general, International Committee of the Red Cross.
