Human Trafficking Prevention Act Clears House Committee

On February 2, the House Homeland Security Committee passed, by voice vote, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Human Trafficking Prevention Act (H.R. 4383), sponsored by Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D-CA).

The legislation would require the secretary of Homeland Security to issue DHS personnel guidance on how to identify and record information about individuals suspected or convicted of human trafficking. In addition, the bill seeks to improve collaboration within DHS through “systemic and routine” sharing of such information.
