House Passes Resolution to Repeal Family Planning Regulation

On February 16, the House passed, 230-188, H.J. Res 43, a resolution, sponsored by Rep. Diane Black (R-TN), to repeal a regulation that prevented states from withholding Title X federal family planning funds from organizations that provide abortions.

Opponents of the resolution note that Title X grants provide services, such as contraceptives, infertility treatment, cancer screenings, and other treatments, particularly for low-income individuals, and that current law prohibits federal funding of abortions. Supporters of the legislation have argued that providing federal grants to such organizations effectively subsidizes abortion services.
