House Passes Child Health Bills

On September 8, the House passed, by voice vote, H.R. 1344, the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Act, and H.R. 1462, the Protecting Our Infants Act. The Energy and Commerce Committee approved the bills on July 28 (see The Source, 7/31/15).

Sponsored by Rep. Brett Guthrie (R-KY), H.R. 1344 would increase programs for deaf and hard-of-hearing newborns, infants, and young children.

H.R. 1462, sponsored by Rep. Katherine Clark (D-MA), would require the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality to report to Congress on prenatal opioid abuse and neonatal abstinence syndrome (newborn withdrawal).
