House Passes Bill to Extend TANF Program

On June 21, the House passed, by voice vote, H.R. 5170, the Social Impact Partnerships to Pay for Results Act. The Ways and Means Committee approved the legislation on May 11.

The measure, sponsored by Rep. Todd Young (R-IN), would extend the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program through FY2017. Among other provisions, the bill aims to reduce the dependence of low-income families on federal means-tested benefits, improve birth outcomes as well as early childhood health and development for these families, and decrease the numbers of teen and unplanned pregnancies.
