House Committee Examines Future of International Food Aid

On June 7, the House Agriculture Committee held a hearing, “The Next Farm Bill: The Future of International Food Aid and Agricultural Development.” The hearing focused on the contributions and efficiency of international food aid and agricultural development programs, such as Title II Food for Peace (P.L. 480) and the McGovern-Dole International Food for Education and Child Nutrition Program, which provide nutrition assistance for women and children globally.

The following witnesses testified:

  • Ron Suppes, wheat producer, U.S. Wheat Associates;
  • Margaret Schuler, senior vice president, International Programs Group, World Vision;
  • Navyn Salem, founder and CEO, Edesia Nutrition;
  • Brain W. Schoeneman, political and legislative director, Seafarers International Union; and
  • Thomas S. Jayne, university foundation professor, Michigan State University, Farm Journal Foundation.
