House Committee Approves Bill to Recognize Service of Women Veterans

On November 13, the House Judiciary Committee approved, by voice vote, a bill (H.R. 5441) to amend the federal charter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) of the United States to reflect the service of women in the armed forces of the United States.

Specifically, the measure would replace references to “men” and “widows” in the VFW charter with references to “veterans” and “surviving spouses,” respectively.
