Budget Committee Approves ACA Repeal Bill

On March 16, the House Budget Committee approved, 19-17, the American Health Care Act (AHCA), legislation that would repeal and replace the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA), commonly known as “Obamacare.”

In January, the House and Senate approved S. Con. Res. 3, a budget resolution that directed the relevant committees in each chamber to provide instructions to repeal and replace the ACA (see The Source, 1/13/17), a process known as budget reconciliation. As directed by S. Con. Res. 3, the Budget Committee measure incorporates into one bill respective portions of AHCA, approved separately on March 9 by the Energy and Commerce and Ways and Means Committees (see The Source, 3/10/17).
