Congressional Schedule: July 21-25, 2014

Floor Action:

This week, the House is scheduled to consider several bills relating to human trafficking: a bill to improve the response to victims of child sex trafficking (H.R. 5111); the Strengthening Child Welfare Response to Trafficking Act (H.R. 5081); the Enhancing Services for Runaway and Homeless Victims of Youth Trafficking Act (H.R. 5076); the Preventing Sex Trafficking and Strengthening Families Act (H.R. 4980); the Human Trafficking Prevention, Intervention, and Recovery Act (H.R. 5135); a bill to direct the secretary of Homeland Security to train Department of Homeland Security personnel how to effectively deter, detect, disrupt, and prevent human trafficking (H.R. 5116); a bill to amend the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000 to expand the training for federal government personnel related to trafficking in persons (H.R. 4449); and the Human Trafficking Prioritization Act (H.R. 2283).

The House also will consider the Child Tax Credit Improvement Act (H.R. 4935).

Mark-Ups:

Violence Against Women- On Wednesday, the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee will mark up the Protecting Students from Sexual and Violent Predators Act (H.R. 2083).

Hearings:

Small Business- On Wednesday, the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee will hold a hearing, “Empowering Women Entrepreneurs: Understanding Success, Addressing Persistent Challenges, and Identifying New Opportunities.”
